About
Millard has a graduation requirement that all students complete an oral communications class, and as part of this, learn interview skills. This culminates with a mock job interview here at Millard North. Below is more information and at the end of the email some action you can take if you're willing to help out.
Who we need: Any adult that feels comfortable interviewing high school students and evaluating their resume and job application. These students range from freshman to seniors and include all ability levels academically. The interview is usually a conversation about their activities, goals, and skills allowing them to apply those to concepts to how they would be a good worker. Basically, you get to see all the cool stuff young people are doing and help prepare them for job interviews in high school and beyond.
Benefits for our students: In addition to the job application, resume and interview skills being taught in the classroom, the students get to have a real like experience with an interview. They get to work through the nerves, think on their feet and understand what actually happens. They also get to be exposed to employers in our community that come in and learn more about opportunities for their future.
Benefits for community partners: We encourage you to wear a business shirt, name badges and/or very briefly let the students know where you work and what you do. This can be good exposure for your business or organization to our students. Some places of employment are also looking for outreach, volunteer and/or community engagement projects and this is a great partnership for that.
Volunteers may sign up for any portion of the event for which they are available. Please provide your availability upon registration.
