I've loved arts and crafts since I was little, so this was a great opportunity for me to make something fun and unique to hopefully brighten someone's day.
I found it helpful to go through the psychological stages of adjusting and adapting to diversity. I definitely went through some culture shock when I first moved to San Antonio from a small town, and it was nice to see that the feeling of being overwhelmed and all the different thoughts that I had as I adjusted (the stages of accepting diversity) were normal, human reactions to stepping out of my comfort zone.

Overall I had a great time. I was impressed by the creativity of the students who donated art, and I enjoyed listening to the panelists and the musical performers after my shift was over. It was fun to see everyone's Halloween costumes, too.
I had a lot of fun setting up the decorations for the Arts & Music Festival, and I enjoyed listening to the faculty and student panelists. Seeing all of the beautiful paintings also inspired me to pick up my own paintbrushes again!
Thank you to PFLAG for doing these talks, and for providing great resources to learn more about allyship! I have a much better understanding now of what it means to be an ally, and I feel a lot more comfortable talking about LGBTQ+ topics now.
