Meet the Mission 2023: A UIW community service fun-for-all! One Friday, One Mission, Many Cool Projects!

Meet the Mission is organized and sponsored by the Office of Mission and Ministry, under the leadership of Sr. Walter Maher, and is held every September.

On Meet the Mission Day, University of the Incarnate Word students and employees engage the greater San Antonio community with service.  Since the first MtM Day, the event has grown to see over 400 members of the University of the Incarnate Word community deploy to over 25 Community Partner sites to perform service projects on a single day.

Schedule of Events

This year, the 16th annual Meet the Mission Day will take place on Friday, September 22nd, 2023, and we will start and end the day at the McDermott Convocation Center.  Meet the Mission Day volunteers will deploy to their work/adventure sites in personal vehicles and UIW transports beginning at 7 am and will return by 3 pm:

• • 7:00 am – 7:30 am Breakfast and prayer
  • 7:30 am – 10:30 am Transport to Community Partner service sites
  • 8:00 am – 2:00 pm Perform service with Community Partners
  • 1:00 – 3:00 pm Transport back to University of the Incarnate Word campus
  • 12:00 - 3:00 pm Lunch (FREE PIZZA!) and reflection

Ways to Get Involved: Your Mission, should you choose to Meet it…

• Be a Faculty or Staff Leader: Recruit student volunteers from classes and/or student organizations and lead them to a Partner service site.  The Faculty/Staff Leader is normally the main point of contact between the University of the Incarnate Word and the Partner organization.  This is excellent for classroom bonding and group building!
• Be a Faculty or Staff Volunteer: If you are willing to help with Meet the Mission Day, but you are not able to recruit students or coordinate with a Partner organization, you might have what it takes!  These volunteers may join a Faculty Leader and go to a Partner organization site, or they may help on campus with Meet the Mission organization, preparation, or follow up.
• Be a Faculty Driver: If you have served as a driver for students traveling to UIW sponsored events, you can help transport volunteers to community sites on MtM Day!
