Join in friendship and solidarity working with disadvantaged women and children in indigenous villages in Guatemala. Former UIW students have started https://littleangelsofmary.org/site/ and they invite us to join them in an area where 69% of the children are malnourished. Nutrition and literacy will be promoted.   See where we will be and support our trip as you can.  See our promo film https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ieFwkX4y4o  The video appears on the @UIW_UMM Instagram and on the @givepulse reels on Instagram.

You are invited to the meetings on zoom Tuesdays, 4:45 to 5:45 pm to prepare for the trip---or you are welcome, just to come and learn.  On this web page, upper right, see Location. Virtual/Remote.  Conference Link    That is how you enter the Zoom on Tuesdays.

Travelers are required to participate on Tuesdays and to watch recordings of things they have missed previously.

The trip includes: Orientation to local realities of Guatemala and learning about Mayan history through guided visits at the Miraflores Museum and the Mayan ruins of Kaminaljuyú (archeological site). Pass the Municipality of Mixco, where the Incarnate Word Sisters School will soon be ready for students; orientation to local history of the villages of Tecpán and Santa Apolonia by visiting the Mayan ruins of Iximché (archeological site). Establishing relationships with the indigenous people in the villages of Santa Apolonia, about two hours from Guatemala City; working in solidarity with them doing service projects with the Preschool Program, building vegetable gardens and supporting the nutrition program; leave Santa Apolonia and go to Panajachel. Panajachel and surrounding indigenous villages of Lake Atitlán, which is about an hour from Santa Apolonia. Visit Antigua Guatemala, a World Heritage City, see museums, churches, and cultural sites. Close the two weeks doing reflections, integration, and documentation of learnings.  June and July - Sharing what was learned with groups or in print or film.

Dr. Senne-Duff and Sr. Martha Ann Kirk have extensive experience leading students on immersion trips and guiding students to transformative experiences. They first worked together on a trip to Peru in 2000 and since then Dr. Senne-Duff  has focused much scholarship and teaching on global nutrition especially in Peru. They have been on many Women’s Global Connection trips going back to 2012 which can be seen here WGC Travel Blog/.

Students are encouraged to invite groups, churches, family, and friends to support the trip as a way of helping these precious children and their families. GoFundMe link to make donations  https://bit.ly/guatemala-solidarity-little-angels-donate   Thank you.
